Extension Okayed for Hospital Reimbursement

The Department of Defense announced that the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) granted an extension to the filing deadline for hospitals requesting reimbursement of capital and direct medical education (Cap/DME) costs under TRICARE.

A summary of the CMS extension and guidance as to how the due date of filing requests for (Cap/DME) under TRICARE are to be calculated is as follows:

• All rehab hospitals and hospitals with rehab subproviders whose cost report ended between December 31, 2005, and February 28, 2006, received a CMS extension to August 31, 2006, which means that the cost report must be filed with TRICARE no later than August 31, 2007.
• All rehab hospitals and hospitals with rehab subproviders whose cost report periods ended between December 31, 2005, and May 31, 2006, received a CMS extension to November 30, 2006, which means that the cost report must be filed with TRICARE no later than November 30, 2007.
